Newcastle University homepage features the Dora collaboration

A blog post on conversational AI for healthcare, “Educating Dora — teaching conversational AI in healthcare to sound right,” was featured on Newcastle University’s homepage on 20–21 April 2026. The piece foregrounds the five-year research collaboration between Newcastle’s Interactional AI team and Ufonia Ltd, and locates Dora within a broader programme of applied linguistic research into voice-based clinical conversation.
Ufonia responded publicly that the homepage feature is an “example of how our science team captures the subtlety and nuance of real clinical interactions to build a state-of-the-art platform for #ArtificialClinicalIntelligence,” noting that the partnership now informs the Encoding Empathy project with University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, supported by Innovate UK.
“It’s been such a delight working with Adam Brandt, Spencer Hazel, and colleagues at Newcastle University on applying conversation analysis to Dora. A valuable opportunity to bring detailed interactional insights into the design of real-world clinical AI” - Yajie Vera He, AI Product Engineering Lead, Ufonia
