BAAL 2025 keynote

Spencer Hazel was an invited keynote speaker at the British Association for Applied Linguistics Conference 2025, hosted at the University of Glasgow (Link). His talk, “Adventures in a Diegetic World — A Chautauqua Talk in Three Acts,” drew on the Interactional AI team’s research programme to argue for a richer consideration of the diegetic frame in human–AI interaction, and human-human interaction.

A BAAL keynote is one of the most visible academic platforms for applied linguistics in the UK. Spencer’s talk situates the team’s healthcare-AI work within a broader theoretical contribution to the way applied linguistics analyses interactional worlds in which automated agents participate.
